We offer a variety of health care services including acute and chronic care, periodic medical exams, pre- and post-natal care, well-baby care, care of the elderly, women's health, minor surgery, vasectomy, palliative care and nursing home care. We have dedicated and caring staff members including receptionists, medical office assistants, a registered nurse, a pharmacist, a behavioural health consultant and a psychiatrist. There is a pharmacy , medical laboratory and X-ray located conveniently in our building.
We are able to offer extended health care services through our affilliation with the Edmonton West Primary Care Network. Some of the services that are offered include pre-natal care and delivery through the Low Risk Maternity Clinic, nutrition advice from registered dieticians, active living advice from an exercise specialist, short term counselling with mental health workers, groups sessions for tobacco reduction, assistance with weight loss with the Why Weight? program, lower leg assessments with registered nurses and assistance with financial and housing needs with the social worker. These are just a few of the services that are offered by the PCN and more services are being added to improve the health and well being of our patients.
The medical home is a concept in health care that embraces the belief that being seen by your own family physician results in better medical care. Our commitment to being your medical home is to provide comprehensive medical services when you need them. To accomplish this goal, we have same day availability for appointments and would ask you to call us first before heading to the nearest walk-in clinic. Our experience is that patients will end up seeing us for the same problem within a couple of days. The walk-in clinics do NOT communicate with us and most times we are unaware that you have been seen elsewhere. Recent research has shown that patients receive better care when they see a physician who knows them well. We will help you get the care you need by coordinating with the PCN services, specialists, hospital programs and community resources.
It is our goal to provide excellent medical care to our patients in a timely manner. In return, it is expected that patients will treat all members of our team with respect. Verbal abuse, physical abuse and other forms of harassment are not tolerated and may be grounds for dismissal from the Clinic.
We also ask that you keep your contact information up to date with us. This is especially important if we need to contact you with test results or appointments with specialists.
We have arranged our schedules and try to book patients in a way that keeps the doctors running on time. We ask that you arrive on time for your appointment or let us know as soon as possible if you cannot keep your appointment so that the time can be offered to another patient. This helps keep our wait time short so that patients can be seen in a timely manner. If you are late for your appointment, we will attempt to see you but you may be asked to wait until the doctor is free or you may be asked to re-book. If you have a number of no shows or late cancellations, you may be charged for future appointments which you do not attend or you may be discharged from the Clinic.
Glenora Medical Clinic is a community teaching clinic. What does this mean for you as a patient? We frequently have learners in our clinic - from first year medical students to residents to student nurses and pharmacists. They are here to gain experience in community family medicine and we take pride in helping to train the next generation of health care professionals. Learners may see you with the physician or on their own to develop their history taking, physical exam and diagnostic skills.
If you have any questions or concerns, they can be addressed to your physician or our clinic coordinator. We do our best to provide the highest quality care for all our patients and welcome any suggestions that can help us improve that care.
